I have sought ways to bring more reflection to the end of the service, especially those where we do not celebrate Communion. There has been some kickback though from those who have so conditioned to just sing a song and get on with life. First, Romans 12:1-2 is an important text as anchor to a theology of the offering. Second, the bread and wine serve as carrier of two actions: the people's gift of themselves and their lives given to God in thankful praise and second as God's renewing of the gift of new life in Jesus.
